piece of advice buy good shells i used eley before and had alot of runners and flappers ,then changed to hull soveriegns and had a better shell/bird ratio and the slab was 10 euro dearer. both were 28g 7.5s . just my 2 cents.also find the highest three in field and set up underneath always seems to draw the birds

I use eley 7.5 28g and get on fine with them and I usually set up under an oak tree as my nets and jacket blend in well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,777 ✭✭✭meathstevie

The actual season doesn't start till 1/11 but they can be shot all year round under derogation for crop protection.

The first thing you want to be doing is get out and do some recce.

Look for fields with barley, wheat, oil seed rape, see what flight lines the pigeons are using and set up under them.

Get your rotary machine and plastic decoys out and see what happens, be prepared to move if you see the birds are coming in a different part of the field.

as an op stated do a recce , i have bein watching 2 wheat fields dis last 2wks as i walk the road between them every morning out with the springer and again in the evening i know roughly there flightline, and id spend awhile with the bino,s scanning ,but honestly cant see decent enough no,s hitting it on both fields, just a thought but would the crappy weather influnce there feeding habits? as there isnt even a handfull droppin down to feed,i dont want to throw out deeks and maybe get a handifull and its all over in half an hour, anyone else coming across this ,i should have stated the wheat is starting to fairly ripen,i would have thought they would start attacking it now, even the farmer is surprised there isnt much activty with them yet:confused::confused:
