Battery falling out of laptop.....

I have an Acer 5738G laptop. On an ongoing basis, the battery keeps falling out of the bottom of it. There are 2 x 'locks' which are supposed to keep the battery in place. However, these are only functioning some of the time. Both the 'locks' are on one side of the battery slot - they don't seem to provide support towards the other end.

I've checked what others have done to address this - and then started to use duct tape. However, this - also is not preventing the problem. It does stop the complete battery falling out. However, it doesn't stop the battery becoming slightly unseated - and if that happens when it's not charging - it means having to boot the system up all over again.

Anyone have any solutions to this issue??

How old is the laptop? Does the battery hold much charge?

Must have it 2 years now I think...? I'm getting notification to change the battery or consider changing it. However, that's not really the issue. If that alone solved the problem, I'd gladly go out and buy a replacement.

If there's nothing you can do re replacing the battery or clips you'll need to find an alternative way of securing the battery. I've never tried this but maybe you could use some form of glue or bonder to hold the battery permanently in place. Of course for this it you would probably need to replace the battery, as the old one would not be able to be removed again for replacement. Also, you would have to be certain that any adhesive would not interfere with the ventilation of the laptop.

I'll take a look tomorrow to see a picture of your laptop model, there may be a less extreme solution. If it was me I'd probably buy a new base for the laptop, but this would involve a lot of work dismantling and reassembling the laptop, plus the risk of damaging the laptop beyond repair.

Did you try wedging anything between the battery and case to give it more hold?

    Replace the lower base .

if you are not comfortable using pc tools I'd advice you to ask someone to do it for you, even pay if you have to.

No - i'm not sure this is applicable in this case. It's all about those 'locks' which are failing. I guess your other idea might be an option.

This looks like the best solution - I will have a rummage online and see if I can see if I can do this myself. Can't be too much involved I would hope....

Would a combination of blue tac and duck tape do? Blu tac where the battery slots in.
