Replacing a CPU

Just wondering if replace my QC 2.3Mhz processor with an i3 or i5 .... feeling stupid... will the pins match the socket?

I'm using a 5 year old HP Pavilion, made before the i(x) processors were even invented, and I was just curious to know if the pins on these processors are identical to the older quad core cpu or (universal)

I know less than nothing about component parts, but I don't want to drop 200E and then find out it doesn't fit in the cpu slot...

    Thanks

    Vince

Nope you won't be able to upgrade your system you will need to buy a new motherboard if you want a newer cpu .
You probably have a S775 system and the newer cpu's use S1155 or S2011 .
