Lower wisdom teeth problems

    Hi all,

In the past few weeks, my upper wisdom teeth have fully erupted with no problems (one is slightly tilted, pointing minutely towards my cheek, but hasn't caused any issues).

The bottom ones seem to be moving now, and are causing my front teeth to shift. I know I will have to get these removed pretty soon. They haven't erupted, and I can't see or feel any defined "tooth" or "root" shape so I think they are impacted.

I'm on my family's insurance plan (it's either VHI/Aviva/Quinn, no idea which as we've never had much need to claim in the past few years), so I'm wondering if I would be covered to have my bottom wisdom teeth extracted?

If you have not seen them, how do you even know that you have lower wisdom teeth? Did you previously see them on X-ray??

Most medical insurers cover the removal of impacted or unerupted teeth but there must be a clinical need for this treatment. The NICE guidelines are generally followed for this. Common examples of indications for removal are recurrent infections, unrestorable decay or associated lesions such as cysts. It is debatable if impacted wisdom teeth causes crowding as late lower incisor crowding can happen in the absence of wisdom teeth...

Best to get a consultation to check them out and see what is best for you.

    Os

I can see the corner of one of the lower wisdom teeth below the gum now :( Hasn't poked through yet, but the sucker is definitely there

I have an appointment tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be leaving with an impending extraction/fix

    Hi,

I have a few symptoms of an impacted wisdom tooth in my lower left jaw, however I counted 16 teeth in my bottom row. Is it possible to grow an 'extra' tooth?

    Thanks
