If they're tritium tube type hands and markers, I have a couple of military issue type watches with this illumination and it's very good. It's way better than the non radioactive luminova type lume. That needs charging by a light source and doesn't last long, no matter what claims are made for it. An hour of usable lume if you're lucky. Very lucky. It's basically crap compared to a radio source.

IMHO it's about the best lume there is without the radioactive issue of earlier solutions. Radium dials glow like a bugger, but no one wants to end up sterile or with two mutated heads :D Encapsulating the Tritium in glass tubes stops the radiation given off by that source(wouldn't work with Radium, sadly). If it was me I'd defo go for the Tritium/T3 version in a big way. Only caveat if such is a concern, the half life of Tritium is something like 12 years IIRC so after a decade they do get less bright. Even so I'd still go for that option.

Looks good to me. Bit of a christmas tree effect in the photo :) but would be less garish in the flesh. When fresh the light from the H3 tubes is pretty amazing in the dead of night. Can't go wrong at that price either.

    Hi,

You can get aftermarket tritium vials installed on most of the watches. They cost between 40 -150 depending on the type of the watch and the dial.

So if you have a nice watch in mind but it lacks the tritium hands and indexes upgrading might be an option for you.

Really? Any links fishguy? I'd reckon some watch designs would be out though. The tritium hands need more clearance than flat hands and a longer post.

I try to find a link for you. They can cut a shape into the hands and insert the vial in them. If the hands are too close they can`t do it. Most military movements have longer posts as it adds to the ruggedness. Probably they will say no to your Movado Museum though :)

    whats that about?

here is the watch, good but poxy strap. they should have sent a nato rubber band.
might have to send it back, don't see why i should pay for a band.

Looks like NATO strap. Never saw a rubber NATO myself. Looks good overall to me CN.

have you heard of these people..?

it says swiss movement but i am wondering with the price.

i asked about the rubber strap, its 15 quid..

    looks nice in the dark...:p

Swiss quartz movements can be had for under a tenner, so the price wouldn't be a big factor CN. 15 quid isn't too bad for a strap. Though prefer the NATO's myself on a watch like that. Then again I'd strap a NATO onto a Patek Dress watch if given half a chance so maybe Im best ignored :D

few days in and a cool watch.

the strap is nato, i thought it should be rubber.

    still looks a bargain price.

i will get back in a decade to tell if i have grown extra bodily parts and/or mutant offspring.

You should be safe, I've had a few radium dialled watches in my time that were like mini Chernobyls on the wrist and I'm fine... *twitches, scratches second head*. :D

That's the beauty of tritium tubes. Best lume there is IMHO*, but unlike Radium is a low level emitter of beta particles(IIRC). These are easily stopped by glass, so no radiation to the wearer. Radium on the other hand spits out all sorts of high powered nasties that would require lead sheeting to stop.

*Superluminova is initially brighter, but dies off pretty damn quickly. It's performance is more variable too, very dependent on thickness of application etc. Tritium is constant and surpasses SL brightness within the hour if not faster in most cases. Example.
