Just out of interest, why an ENT specialist as opposed to a GP?

Rocking up to an Emergency Dept without a referral will cost you €100.

Thanks for the reply.I dont know the exact procedure.i told the ENT directly because i want to cut down the charge of GP and since its ear pain.Maybe i think its best to go to a GP first. Can i visit a GP for free in a public hospital?

GPs typically work in the community, not in hospitals. A consultation with a GP could cost anywhere from 40-60 euro, unless you have a medical card. A GP can refer you to an ENT clinic after that of it's deemed necessary, but the waiting times for such an appointment are in the region of months to years. The alternative is to be referred to a specialist on a private basis, that cuts the wait but could cost upto a couple of hundred euro.

Your first best bet is to see a GP though.

    Best of luck

A GP may well be able to sort out your problem without referral to an ENT specialist - agree with advice to see your GP first.

There is no free way to access ENT care in Ireland unless you have a medical card. Seeing your GP first is the cheapist and also he/she will most likely be able to sort out the problem.

GP is gatekeeper to the medical system and solver of 95% of medical problems

Ear pain may not relate to the ear, not getting into diagnosing your problem ear, nudge nudge BUT it may not be an ear problems something your GP will sort for you and if not refer you to ENT surgeon

There is a long wait in most places for ENT BUT in Dublin there is an ENT hospital on Adelaide road, the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear which your GP may refer you to
