BTEA Query

    Hi Folks,

I have a question in relation to the above subject.

Ive been speaking to the OU in ireland about this, just give ye a bit of background info.

I have completed two Certificates from the OU:
Certificate in Information Technology And Computing (30 ECTS points)
Certificate in Computing And Mathematics (30 ECTS points)

Ive been accepted on to a Higher Certificate in IT Support Hetac Level 6 year 2, being exempt from year one with previous education.

Now Ive been also speaking with a person from Hetac last year and i was asking her about the OU recognition in ireland with NFQ, she said that the above certs from the OU are not equivalent to Higher certificate Hetac Level 6 they only show that your are studying at that level

Hetac Level 6 in Ireland consists of 120 ECTS points from what i have been told. My Certificates from the OU consist of 60 ECTS points (2*30 ECTS points) which would leave 60 ECTS points to make a higher cert hetac level 6 hence why i am going into year two of higher cert in IT Support.

I am filling in the BTEA form and it states to contact qualrec.ie and get written conformation from them to state that my OU certs only make up 60 ECTS points and i am progressing to 120 ECTS points with year 2 in September.

Looking back at this, it would have been an awful lot easier to start in year one rather that go into year two and try to make sense out of all this.

The OU in Ireland are not giving me a straight answer, Hetac states one thing the OU states another.

Sorry about the rant, just very fustrating the red tape that goes on.

If anyone who has OU qualifications and used them as previous study and applied for BTEA could give me some insight as to how you preceeded with all this, I'd be very grateful.

    Regards

    Eamonn
