Alright, I'm from the Dublin Wheelers, and I should be doing the A4 race out in Carlow tomorrow. Given that I'm a city head is there anyone who's familiar with the course out there?

I did the Des Hanlon at the start of the season so is it similar terrain or more lumpy asuch as you generally get in the midlands?

Part of route is on course of last weeks A4 race at the Leinster Champs in Bunclody if you did that one. (Kildavin is about 3/4 miles from Bunclody)

No major climbs but lots of longish drags. Good quiet roads in general and finish is on a 200/300m uphill stretch. Might suit a Gilbert or a Sagan!

awful pity twas not 80 k as advertised.

the club should be answerable for this to CI. as race distance is a factor in deciding what race to attend.

Was the race shorter? Mullingar was spot on this year, but the 4 of the 5 races before it were dramatically shorter in the end...

I think the lap was about 30k (and the start/finish was at the sign-on) so the advertised 80k for A4 and 100k for A3 was pretty much impossible. Good event though and I'm glad the A3 race wasn't 100k or our long distance breakaway would probably have been reeled in!

Yeah, the race was shorter than advertised on CI, but anyone who looked at the route in advance would have seen that. Laps were just under 30k each. Cycling Ireland had the race up at 2/3/4 laps, 1pm start, - AFAIK the organizers knew it was 30 km laps, and it was always a 12 noon start in previous years. Maybe the fault lies with CI here....
