Temp insurance transfer

I tried searching for an answer but found nothing. Anyway, I have 06 Astra with a gearbox that I don't know how long will last for and needs fixing. The problem is I've gotten a job which I need a reliable car to get me to work and back. The question is can I temporarily transfer my insurance to one of my parents car while they are away on holidays for a few weeks? The reason I ask is I've previously rang my insurer to temporarily transfer the insurance on other cars when buying them and they have refused to transfer it even for a number of hours. My insurer is Aviva through quoteme.ie

EDIT: It might be worth noting that I'm only 18 and my car is not actually mine but in my mothers name and I'm a named driver :D. Maybe a better option would be to ad me as a named driver on one of my parents policies?

Only the policyholder can transfer the insurance, and that's your mother and not you. If you want to be added to another car as a named driver then the policyholder for that car will have to do it for you.

Yes I know that, but is it possible? As we have been refused before to temporarily transfer the insurance.

Is it possible for the insured to transfer their cover from one car to another? Yes in principle, but only at the discretion of the insurer. You can do nothing, your mother needs to call and ask.

Do you have a full licence? You may be covered for the driving of other cars, you would then be allowed to drive your mothers car

Most insurers require the person to be over 25/26 for this though.

It's his mother's policy, not his.

I do indeed. In our case, my mother has two cars with two different insurance policies but i'm only on one of them and the one I'm on, the car is broken.

Your mother needs to remove you from the policy of the broken car and added to the policy of her other car in order to drive it. You are only a named driver on the policy of the broken car. You don't have a policy of your own on either car so only she can do it.
