One of the legends of the film biz has died at 77. The whiz kid who was running 20th Century Fox in his 20s overseeing both huge hits (Planet of the Apes, Sound of Music, Butch Cassidy...) and some big misses (Dr Dolittle, Star, Tora Tora Tora) moving to Warners and then to a successful independent career initially with producer with David Brown, making his first big splash with Jaws (he gave Spielberg his big screen break with Sugerland Express).

Probably the only movie executive to be fired by his own father.
