hey everyone, have just started the search for the perfect engagement ring and of course I'm already confused as to want i want!!:o
im kind of going away from the more traditional rings and am looking for something different even a bit unique. i have been looking on the likes of etsy.com and some Facebook pages. and have found a few rings i like, I'm just wondering how safe if is to buy a ring online, how can you ensure the rings are genuine?
also if anyone would have any recommendations as to were i could find some vintage rings or some one who makes custom rings, my budget is pretty small round E2000 so need to factor that in aswel!
    im in limerick btw
    thanks

I got my fiancée an art deco ring from the 20's on eBay. It's a pearl solitaire shouldered by 4 bright cut diamonds. Lots of lovely stuff on there and far, far better value than jewellers, the guy who re-sized it for us told us it would sell for 6-9 times what I paid in an Irish antique store.

Noonans antiques in limerick have lovely rings or fentons beside it. Got my own in Delphi antique jewellers in powerscourt shopping centre Dublin and was very impressed with their range! Might be worth ringing them first to hear what they have in your price range

I got my antique engagement ring from Tony Honan Antiques in Ennis. I'd highly recommend them, they have rings there to suit most budgets. I've also purchased jewellery from Noonan's in Limerick and they also have a nice selection.

I just saw you post so it may be a little late but I just got my engagement ring custom made. She's based in Dublin. I gave her a picture of a gorgeous vintage style ring and she did exactly what I wanted for under €2000. She's on Facebook.

i'm interested in buying a ring online also. Has anyone done it? is it just luck if you don't get caught by customs or does everyone have to pay customs on it? if your ring is delivered from uk do u still have customs? Also anyone who bought online were they happy? and anyone who wasn't happy did you have any problems returning the ring?

Can't recommend Delphi enough - that's where mine is from and I LOVE it. It's an early art deco style, circa 1920.

I bought my partner's ring online on eBay and she loves it so I can also recommend that route. Hers is very modern looking though.

And yes, expect to pay customs duty on such a shipment, it's not usually that bad though.

You should definitely take a look at Adverts.ie

There is a lovely man in Maynooth who only deals in antique and vintage rings. We bought the most beautiful Art Deco diamond engagement ring from him and got it at a fraction of the value. He goes under the name 'artfan'. Couldn't be happier

Cobwebs in Galway has a fabulous selection of vintage rings. Got mine there and love it.
Got wedding band made by Michael Horan in Tullamore. http://www.michaelhoranjewellery.com though the website seems to be down at the mo. His number is 0579343976 or 0867320856, and email weddbands@msn.com. Cost us a fraction of a what saw in the shops, as he gets commissions directly from shops who get their own cut normally. Our photographer is getting hers from him as well now. :)
He can do custom engagement rings too.
