CPU and PSU Fan problem

Hey again all, Trying to fix a mates computer here and noticed the CPU and PSU fans only turn on every now and then when booted up. They always come on together and stay on while the computer is running or else both stay off until you restart and try again. Any ideas what could cause this? PSU/Mainboard problem maybe?…

Hey again all,

Trying to fix a mates computer here and noticed the CPU and PSU fans only turn on every now and then when booted up. They always come on together and stay on while the computer is running or else both stay off until you restart and try again. Any ideas what could cause this? PSU/Mainboard problem maybe? Also, the CD tray seems to have a mind of its own and every now and then starts going in and out of its own accord. Wondering if this could suggest a dodgy PSU thats damaged other hardware also?

Any help would be amazing. Has me confused!!
