Rights of temporary staff

My daughter is working since last october in a well known retail store. She was taken on a temp. xmas staff and luckily kept on til now. Unfortunately her hours go up and down from one week to the next, they can go from 13 - 26 hrs with most days being just 3 hr. shifts. She never knows what days she is working until the last minute. Staff that were taken on recently were put on a 30 hr. contract while she is on a 10 hr. contract. It is really started to get to her. We are well aware how lucky she is to have a part time job, but she needs to start planning for future i.e going back to college or emigrating. Just wondering after 10 months has she any rights at this stage i.e. can they let her go at any time seeing as she was taken on a xmas staff. thanks.

re the other staff given 30 hour contracts, they may not have realised your daughter was looking for a higher hour contract. Some people like the flexibility of lower contract hours, so she may need to make this specifically clear.
