Airdroid is all you need for file transfer. For contacts, sync them with Google and they'll show up as contacts in Gmail, you can edit/merge/favourite them on your pc and even add images and other info and they'll sync with your phone

I would have thought a USB cable is all you need. Plug a USB cable into your phone and then into any PC. It'll show up as a drive so you can copy away. I know Airdroid is more than that but but for just copying a few photos off the phone USB is grand.

Then if you want to get more sophisticated then there's Airdroid, Dropbox, WiFi File Explorer, AndFTP, EStrongs File Explorer. Now that I look at it there's too much choice :)

Ya. Just connect your phone to your PC with a usb cable. Drag and drop your folders or files to or from phone or PC.
Airdroid is grand but might not suit some and has it's limitations.
You need your PC connected to wifi. Not everyone has a wifi connection at home. You can't copy folders using Airdroid either, just files.

Long term, you should consider Dropbox and the instant upload feature. You can set it to upload all photos when you're on wifi.

    Heebusjeebus is on the ball...

Install dropbox and it auto uploads your photos to the cloud. You can then install dropbox on your pc or just access them from the web on any PC... Very handy!
