Batista to make his debut

Batista to make MMA debut in October
After nearly three years in the making, former WWE wrestling star Dave Batista will finally get in a cage and compete in mixed martial arts this October.

According to a report from TMZ, Batista will be competing at a show called the CES MMA League on October 6th at the Duncan Donuts Theater in Providence, Rhode Island. His opponent is called Rashid Evans (not Rashad before you get excited).

It was heavily rumoured in 2010 that Batista was on the verge of signing for the Strikeforce promotion, but that soon came to an end once Zuffa purchased the organization.

Even though Dave Batista is 43 years old, he will definitely be a huge draw for the smaller promotion. The fight with Evans is apparently going to be shown on live television, although the network has not been announced yet.

Rashid “Smash” Evans is, like Batista, making his professional debut. He has fought three fights as an amateur – going 1-2.

More on this when we have it.

Only people who will be interested in this are Pro Wrestling fans, He's a Blue belt in BJJ and a strong dude so will be dangerous at the lower levels.

Is it a table, ladders and chairs match?

Triple H is going to be the guest referee.
Guy is training with Cesar Gracie a few years now so he shouldn't make a show of himself.

That's on this weekend as well, he's fighting Vince Lucero (22-22) now instead!

So, I have to ask... "what time is Brock, I mean Batista fighting this weekend" :)

David Loiseau is fighting on the card too!

It will be cool to see how Batista will do. He says it himself, he is only doing it to experience what it is like to fight. Fair play to him for going after what he wants.

I'll stay up and watch it anyway, only if it doesn't interfere with the Ais Daly fight!

I can see him having a few fights at local shows. He can draw because of extensive pro-wrestling background but he wont get to a top promotion nor would they really want him.

If he's quick and as strong as he seems and has a tough head on him (which he doesn't know yet:) then he's a handful for anyone but top 20/30 guys. There can't be much more than 40 decent HWs in the world. I doubt very much that he'll even attempt to develop any sort of stand up game that serves any purpose but to open for a take down (no matter how much Dan Inosanto stuff he's been watching/training). 4 wins and there'll be serious talk of a UFC debut and talk = marketing = UFC... I'd bet anything you like if Batista wins his first 4 fights (if he even has 4 fights) he'll be talked up to UFC level... and next thing ya know

Batista v Couture! / Herman / Rothwell somebody like that

    all possible

but more realistically a marketers dream would be Batista v Pudzianowski !!!
That's some power for one cage!

He's 43 and will be getting slower not faster. He has started too late. He will most likely win tonight anyway because of his opponents poor record.

The UFC wont want anything to do with Batista. He is too old, had no good amateur background and will probably end up being a bit of a freakshow. They pride themselves on not putting on freakshows. They wont entertain, the idea.

Batista will never get near UFC level. He has started way too late and only realistically has a handful of fights in him.

You are aware Couture retired a year and a half ago. Those other two proposed matchups are pretty bad. Rothwell would give Batista a beatdown.

Batista / Pudzianowski will happen and it will probably be on some regional show.

He'll be killed by anyone with any decent striking as he has no footwork or clue of striking, With his athleticism and strength you'd think they would have thought him even basic boxing where he would have blown that lad away in under a minute.

Definitely seen more skill and more entertainment value at the leagues. He definitely should have went ammy first

Dana has said that he wouldn't rule out signing Dana, despite the fact you appear to work for the company.

Dana didn't sign Bobby Lashley when he was in MMA and a better prospect than Batista.

I have to say fair play to Bautista. He seems quite sensible and is just looking to test himself. It was his first fight and he beat someone with more experience than he'll ever have. As for fighting amateur - he's not a young man looking to build a strong foundation for a career, he's someone with a few competitive athletic years left who just wants a few scraps. Why should he do that for free when he can get paid?

Everyone wins in this situation - the promoter gets drawing power, Bautista gets his fight and anyone who wants to can watch. I've seen worse pro debuts, especially at heavyweight.
