Interior designer in Cork

    Hey all

Im just at process of slating a new build and am looking for help with the decoration stage of the build. The build is going quiet slow but I want to plan ahead and at the moment find myself walking into and out of all sorts of shops not really getting anywhere..

I got a designer to help my with the outline of the build as I was not fully satisfied with the architect. Although this was v helpful it was also v expensive.

I was wondering if anyone has experience of an interior designer in Cork area (anywhere) that they would highly recommend who will not break the bank. It would really stop me wasting my own time.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated

Most designers will probably work nationwide. I will PM who I worked with last year and was very pleased and I didn't have to pay anything for the service.

    Cheers for reply

I would actually prefer someone is is more locally based as I would like them to come to house when it is plastered and to help out with furnishings etc. So if there was someone good around Cork area it would make my life alot easier.

I hope you have a very deep wallet.

And also, you will still have to get in carpenters, painters and floor fitters to do what ever an ID (Interior Designer) decides to do.

IDs dont like to get their hands dirty, but they like to spend all of your money asap, and hit you with a nice big bill/fee for it too.

PS-If an ID tries to charge you for a very 1st consultation/meeting in the house, then tell them where to go and show them the door.

Oh and best of luck with the house too.:)

Paint the house interior white or magnolia (base coat) for now and get a feel for the various spaces in the house.

Dont rush into anything and dont get drawn in by all the "sweet talk" that an ID will give you.

Take your time, and get used to the space 1st,also dont be afraid to try a bit of painting and ID yourself.
You will save alot of money too, trust me.;):D

seen as you haven't had any recommendations yet try www.interiorsdirectory.com or www.theinteriorassociation.ie.

but don't write off anyone because they are not in your area, most designers work nationwide, this is a small country!

i had the same experience, walking in and out of stores and not really getting anywhere. i actually ended up going to a trade only furniture show with Lorna. it was bloody amazing, the only way to shop, and i got brill ideas and bought loads. We had an open book system, so i actually new all the trade prices and could compare stuff other shops. i definately saved a few quid!!

I have warned on many threads about this kind of behavior, you have both read this I am sure and the associated warnings.
    No more warnings.

    Paddy147 and Yamanoto infracted.

Sorry, but I felt I was being very relevent and direct to the other posters comments.
Why is the chap bringing in and comparing other professinals with IDs,if hes not prepared to listen to some hard facts?

    I,ll bow out now.:)

Im bowing out of this now,and I just deleted my last post.

No point in talking about this matter anymore.

Best regards to doniepony...and keep a very close eye on that wallet of yours.;)

Hope all goes well for you and your build.:)

Don't know if I should answer this as I don't want to get into another argument with you.

I did a short course in ID, in Ireland, with an Irish ID, way back when. I did that course together with a friend of mine and it was for my own pleasure that I did, because I was way advanced. One of the first things tought were drawing room plans to scale - by hand.
So yes, obviously IDs make plans and sketches, even in Ireland.

I think you are confusing stylists with interior designers.

Im well up to date,Im very savvy and Im not getting mixed up with anything or anyone.

    Trust me.

    Thanks and Regards.

Haha Paddy. It really doesn't matter. ;)

I am not going to post on this forum anymore, it's way too dangerous. :D

    See you somewhere else.

I've expressed identical sentiments to mods for the same reasons.

However, I would ask that you don't leave here. You bring a very unique point of view and style to here which I'm sure people are grateful for.

It would be better if every thread where someone asked for recommendations on an interior designer didn't turn into a lecture where those of us that value their service are ridiculed. I find it terribly strange to have an interior design forum where one of it's most frequent posters appears to have no time whatsoever for those formally trained in it.

As a side note, I've no doubt you'd absolutely hate most of my house! Doesn't mean we can't be friends though :)

I have every right to post here on this ID/Decoration forum SAS.
I give my upfront, honest and valued opinion too,to which I have had a few thankyous for it too, from various forum members. (publicly and also via PM)

Post number 4 and 5 (my 1st and 2nd post) expressed my honest opinion and also gave some good sound advice to the OP.

Others then decided to sieze on "one little bit of my post" and turn it into large "debate"..talking about architects, structural engineers and other design professionals and comapring them to an ID......... to which I showed and posted some hard facts with pictures about 3D layoiuts and plotted/scaled floor plans to show how much work these other professionals do for their fee..

Other members posts and my posts were then removed by Yop.........Sorry Yop:)

Now....I would never ask or want anyone to leave any forum here either.Sure we all have "debates" and "arguements"..but thats the nature of an internet forum..when people may not see eye to eye.

I just get straight to the point..and dont mess around with my words.Im firm but polite too.
I dont personaly slagg off any member or degrade them or their house...(unlike some people here do).....but I will stand my ground on my beliefs and opinions and also my personal experiences too.

Anyway.....posts number 4 and 5 were only posted to the OP by me,to give him some advice with regards money and how to be cost effective and also get used to his new build space 1st,before going ahead with any other expensive ID measures.....in relation to his opening post and things being very expensive.

    Regards.

Well said - that's the crux of the issue entirely.

I too find it quite odd that folks should to have to defend the professional integrity of Interior Designers, within a forum titled 'Interior Design & Decoration'.

So as to avoid further squabbles with paddy147, that's all I say on the matter.

    Folks
I really don't know where this is going, I have warned and given out 2 infractions over the past 24 hours but this seems to have been totally ignored and now other posters have joined in.

The mods on here will have a chat to see what action we will take on this.

I'm closing this thread for now
