ENT consultant fee

My GP has referred me to see an ENT consultant. He warned me that it could be two years before I get my appointment. Roughly how much would it cost me to see him as a private patient? I have a very low income but I'll go insane if I have to wait two years.

A bit like asking how long is a piece of string unfortunately - a flat fee for seeing a consultant privately would be somewhere in the region of 100 - 150 Euro I guess but ( and this is a big but ) if additional tests are required then the final cost could be significantly higher.

That's actually not as bad as I thought. I have a medical card. If after the initial consultation the treatment/tests required were too expensive could I revert back to the medical card? I know it would put me right back at the bottom of the list again but without actually going to see the consultant I have no way of knowing if I'm going to be able to come up with enough money for private treatment or not.

I would consider that a minimum estimate - it can be higher afaik

I came across this thread when I was looking for information so just in case anyone is looking in the future. I was referred by my GP to an ENT specialist in the Mater private, GP cost €55 and ENT consultation was €180. Obviously if other procedures like CT scans and surgery are involved then costs will increase but you can talk to the ENT specialist's secretary about that.
