    Hey there ,

Hope someone can help me. I have a medical card ( prob not for much longer) and I recently gotten my eyes tested and while i require a very very subtle lenses. I'm going to be working at long periods on the computer and my eyes get very tired. The optician said this would help.

    ANYWAY my question ...

I see that a few places actually do designer glasses and offer a student discount, which is perfect for me up to 30% in some cases. Will my medical card give me any further discount ??

    Thanks

You are best to ask them directly. There is no reason that they shouldn't give you your medical card allowance an any frame purchase. Some places might say no as they want you buy from the more expensive range. But your medical card allowance is the same whether you buy a €50 frame or a €400 frame. If one place says no then they don't really want your business so move onto the next.

Thats great , thanks a million.

Would I be right in saying that I need to fill out the form in the opticians that I intend on buying the glasses from ?? Or is it a voucher issued that I can use anywhere ??

    Thanks

If your eye test was done on the medical card, the approval letter you received from the HSE is what gives you the allowance.

Did you get a form from the optician to apply to the HSE for an eye test or did you pay for an eye test privately?

Every opticians is given a panel number by the HSE if they wish to claim medical benefits. When you fill in the green form the opticians will have pre stamped (usually) with that particular opticians number. This form is then to the HSE office and approved for use in the opticians who's number is on the form. If you decide not to go to the optician that the form is approved for you have to go through the approval system again.
