    Horrible, horrible stuff. :(

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0712/child-injured-by-dirty-needle-in-lane-near-home.html
The girl’s mother, Irene Sheehy, said Holly fell off her scooter in a lane near her home and landed on a bag of rubbish, which contained the dirty needle.

The incident occurred near Abbey Lane in Limerick city last Sunday.

Mrs Sheehy, who has nine other children, said that medical personnel had confirmed the needle was a used drugs needle, but did not definitively say what drug it contained. She said she believed it was heroin.

Holly was taken to hospital after the incident and is now on a series of drugs to combat possible HIV or Hepatitis infections.

The young girl now has to attend Crumlin Children’s Hospital for further tests. It could take up to six months to confirm if Holly is free of infection.

Mrs Sheehy said the family are very worried about Holly and now have to anxiously await the result of a series of tests.

In the meantime her young daughter is on heavy medication which is making her sick and tired.

She said no other family should have to go through this, and has warned others living near areas where rubbish is dumped to be very vigilant.

Limerick City Council has said it is investigating the incident.

It says it responds to incidents when these reports are given to them and it has a specific way of disposing of drugs related paraphernalia.

The council urged people who come across this type of dangerous rubbish to report it.

Yeah shocking stuff alright. Was reading about it earlier in the thread in AH on it. Horrible thing to happen to a little child (or any other passer by tbh) and her parents must be frantic with worry.

Poor kid and her poor family. Luckily she had enough sense to tell her mother that she has fallen on the needle, a younger kid may have thought nothing of it said nothing!

What is it coming to when an innocent child is exposed to this...I hope that all her test results will be clear of infection. Poor child...it just isn't right!
