Laptop battery failed

The battery finally gave out and my laptop now must be plugged in 24/7.

On the charge bar it says 73% but I have noticed it has been slowly decreasing, maybe 1% a day, when its plugged in. I'm just worried that when it gets down to zero the laptop will shut down for good, despite being plugged in? Or will it just keep going?

    Thanks

Usually you can remove the laptop battery and it will work of mains power alone, so I'd assume it'll be fine when it dies completely.

The only annoying thing is, if there is no battery life, any time the lead falls out or gets disconnected the laptop will turn straight off
