strange text question

Hi, first up sorry if wrong place to ask. i got a text in relation to an ad i put on done deal ( car) the text had a name instead of a number, i do not know the person who sent it, does anyone know how this is done? i was immediately suspicious and i have not responded. thanks.

It's done through Skype. 2 weeks ago was my birthday and my brother text me off Skype. The name where the number should have been was his user name for Skype.

sounds like some form of sms spoofing

Thanks, i tried that there with skype it came up as my user name, now to open another skype account with an evil name and freak out people i know :D thanks again
