    Hi Guys and Gals,

I was just wondering what sort of companies that 3rd years have had their work experience with in the past, is it down to each individual student to organise it or do the college help out?

Also, are most graduates of the course finding work and, if so, what sort of companies are they getting work with? Do many get employed with their work experience companies etc. once they graduate?

    Thanks for your kind attention.:)

    Hey!

I'm on placement at the minute (day off, I'm not slacking, I swear!) so I can answer some of your queries anyway.

There is a Placement office that helps students with their placements for 3rd year. There is an online system where you fill in a CV (different to a normal CV as there are a few extra fields like project work etc.) and on that same system, companies will start to make jobs available - if you want to apply for a job, there will be say 10 to 100 applications accepted and you may or may not get an interview out of it.

Sometimes, it can happen that the company looks through CVs that have not been submitted to them and if they like you that way, they can also call you for interview. That's how I got mine, actually!

If you want, you can organise your own placement but this needs to be arranged early enough and you need to get official things from the company etc.

As regards job opportunities after, I've heard of lots of people entering 4th year with a certain graduate place at where the did their internships. Depends on how good you are, I suppose!

    Hope this helps somewhat!:)

    Hi Reap,

Thanks for the quick response. Congrats on getting the placement, must be nice to be head-hunted at this early stage! It should bode well for your future employment prospects.

Seems like a good system for the placements, saves a fair bit of work for the students.:D I like the fact that if you make a good impression during the placement there's a good chance you will be hired after 4th year. That would be a major boon in the current jobs climate.

One final question, are most of the placement companies big multinationals, or finance houses etc. or are there some smaller companies, as I'd prefer the latter?

Thanks again for all your help.

Both large and small companies take interns. Job prospects at the moment are good - the case could be different in the future.

Yes they are good at the moment. I'm working in a software company at the moment and I've only done two years of college.
