I have my nct in 2 weeks time and my fan assembly needs replacing due to a rusty bearing which makes an awful noise when the fan comes on. I want to wait until after the nct to get it replaced so if i need any other work done I can prioritise that and get the fan done later. My question is if the fan started making a racket during the test would it affect the test or chances of passing?

no, it shouldn't affect Test and if it does it would be a visual no charge inspection, if it had to be replaced which is really none of there concern.

Thanks that's what I was hoping, i had a quick look through the manual on their website and it didn't look like something that they look at so I think I'll put it through first.

    Yes,
See page 70 of the current NCT test manual.
Power Steering Pump 27 Worn, noisy, leaking or drive defective.

If it's screaming at full lock it is probably pissing fluid too at full lock, mine was like that for ages on my Octavia, and didn't lose fluid unless at full lock, ended up having to replace 2 pumps and a rack.

Are you sure its not the belt itself that's making the noise?

@OP The noisy fan defiantly won't be an NCT issue as said. Is it a Peugeot 206 by chance?

i have installed reconditioned rack , and put second hand power steering pump. no leaks from pump. id say bearings are worn.
i did split old pump, very simply device, both bearing gone. love to get tools, and could recondition it. need small bearing puller. there is one tiny one.

By the way , fail nct on wheel alignment (who sold reconditioning rack, said it was aligned  ) , and rear right indicator wasnt enough yellow, need to change bulb ... thats it.

Wheel alignment has to be done after you fit a rack. They most likely ment that the rack is centered correctly(assembled) but this has nothing to do with your wheel alignment.
