The Octavia is an almost 9 year old design. It didn't get it back then so the same model is hardly going to get it now.

It'll be a Renault or a Nissan. And given the current "trend" for electric cars being "cool" it'll be one of their EV's, so the Leaf or Zoe or equivalent.

    Good thinking batman!

Leaf could be a runner alright!

looks like that one is already decided.

    http://www.caroftheyear.org/

It was the GM Volt / Ampera

There is a lot of interesting candidates for the 2013 gong

Only car for the award in my opinion: Toyota GT86.
Subaru isn't due out till next year, so that can have the 2014 award!

Something from Kia or Hyundia me thinks.

Its going to be politically driven (pardon the pun)

    For sports cars,

Id love to see the GT86 take the accolade,

simply for the fact that it might boost sales and then I can buy a nice clean used one in a few years and blow the rest of my salary on 225-45r17's

You'd want to up the power if you're using extra rubber...
The point of the skinny prius tyres is to let the back move around a little. Why would you want to deny yourself such joy?

Opel Ampera ticks all the boxes.
"Modren" looking, but not too aggressive or threatening to appeal to the family market, not too fast, appealing to the anti speed lobby, nice and green, perfect for the "Cars Are Evil" brigade, certainly safe and kind to pedestrians when you run them over, etc...

Twas more of a way of saying I want to drive the pudding out of one to be honest, I haven't done too much research into the tire specs, it was a blatant presumption, and Im sure it would well able to light them up either way. ( or could stick a set of ditchfinders on it to be sure to be sure :pac: )

Except for the fact that it is last year's winner, and is therefore not on this year's list!

Of the candidates for 2013, I'd say it will either by the Prius Plug-in, the Prius Plus, or else the Volvo V60 Plug-in, although the Smart ED could be a runner if it is especially 'green'.

Who votes for the car and do the rules exclude expenses-paid trips to nice places to drive the cars?

Goes to show how much attention car of the year garners. So much it completely passes me by every year.:D

The Leaf was car of the year in 2011 apparently.
My bets are on the i30/i40 for the next one.

I'ld give it to either the Boxster or the GT-86.

They're the two of the best cars released this year!

The Boxster firstly managed to get out of the "girls cars" category and looks and drives amazing.

The GT-86 is the car we've all been waiting for a long time. Finally an affordable couple which looks great and is an absolute hoot to drive!

Yeah I'd love to see the GT86 get it as well, but let's face it, it's always a boring dull box on wheels that wins.

Of the mainstream cars, I'd like to see the 3 series, by all accounts it's a brilliant car, although I note that What Car? are saying that standard models do not drive the way a BMW should. The new Volvo V40 looks like it could be a great car as well.
