Car is registered in Clare. Will I be able to tax it in the tax office in town hall in limerick or will I have to go to the Clare office in Shannon Banks? Thanks :D

You can pay the tax where ever you want.

You can pay the tax where ever you want.

No you cant, motor tax can only be paid over the counter in tax offices in the county in which the vehicle is kept, i.e. the county of the registered owner.

I have taxed my Clare registered car in Galway several times and have never got refused or even asked about it.

Thats because it is registered to you in Galway. If you were to go to Clare to try and tax it, it wouldnt be possible.

Its really not that hard to comprehend. The car can only be tax in the county of the registered owner. The county on the reg plate is irrelevant

I have no problem understanding it thanks. I live in Clare but often work in Galway so sometimes its handy to get it taxed on my lunch break . I have taxed it in Clare too.
Hope that is easy enough for you to comprehend IONO8

Sorry, didnt mean it in a condescending tone. So your registered address is in clare but you can pay your tax at a Galway tax office?

Interesting if thats the case, but it is definiteley not standard procedure.

My address is in Dublin and i cannot tax it anywhere else other than dublin.

Infact they had a prerecorded message playing over the intercom at the tax office to that effect last time i was there.

I have not taxed it in Galway for a few years now (no trouble getting time off anymore unfortunately) but definately have done so at least 5 times in the past.
Its all good IONO8 no offence taken.

It's not related to where the car was first registered, it is where the car is currently registered. The reason you tax the car in Galway is because your address is in Galway.
A friend just asked me to tax his car for him here in Cork, his brother tried to tax it in Meath today but was told he cannot as the car is registered at an address in Cork. (Friend is in the US since December, hence the predicament).

I don't think so, the Clare office I thought was in Ennis. I've to go to the tax office in Limerick City as the Dooradoyle office only deals with Limerick county registered cars.
