When will my tax fine arrive and how much?

Hi all.

I was caught with on tax about 2 months ago and am left in suspense wondering when my fine will come in the door.

Anyone have any ideas on when it might arrive and how much I should be expecting to pay?

AFAIK it would be a summons to court, and the garda is likely to suit his own schedule.

He never said anything about court.he told me would I like a fine or to take the car off me.

A summons is a bit OTT I would have thought? Tax fine is €60 I think.

Will be a court summons. As far as i know there is no arbritrary fine.

When you receive the court summons if you turn up on the day demonstrating that you have paid your tax back to the start of the unpaid period, and have insurance up to date, you will likely not pay a fine. If they are busy (which likely they will be) you will get a 'strikeout' - effectively your name will get crossed off the list and your case won't be heard and a fine won't be handed out.

That's what happened to about 50% of the other people attending court for traffic offences on the day i was summoned.

I got a fine, because i foolishly did not bring evidence of the above ! Garda did not attend court (believe he had left the force) on the day of my fine, so no information was provided as to how far out of date my tax was (a few months if i recall) , so I got 75e fine. Wore a suit, apologised and pleaded guilty and paid the fine. Didn't get penalty points luckily.

TLDR - back date your tax, turn up on the day with the evidence of this and you might get sent home with no fine.

My brother told me that a fine just came in the post for him when he was caught with no tax

"jar_of_coins" is right. the fine for no tax is/ was €60 and no points.

i got it last year, i owned my car for around 2-3 months and "hadn't got around" to taxing it yet. but seemingly it hadn't been taxed for a good while before i owned it, was pulled in on the motorway after driving through a.n.p.r.

€60 and no points, the garda was very decent about it. took the fine around a fortnight to arrive.

i've being fined a few times for no TAX, you just pay a cash fine no points no court. infact i was caught the other day with 8months out and garda said he'd just fine since i was 4 hours drive from home too far a walk. but i have heard of someone not getting fine in post and going to court to be told that its up to you to pay fine at station even if you receive no fine in post, so beware of your time frame pay within 28days. thats what I'd do im sure someone will tell me it's wrong anyway
