Here's what was done by garage

    Sender unit for fuel tank?

Just a random wild guess with no real knowledge to back it up

Will it not start on any sort of a hill, or only when it's tilted in a particular direction?

When the nose facing uphill ,no hope
When facing downhill it 50/50 but usually hane to get it level for it to start.

The hill doesn't have to be to steep either ,even a 10 degree incline and shell still give trouble

Could the garage not put the front wheels on ramps and diagnose from there?

It happened to a friend of mine over the weekend in a 2007 mondeo but it was because he was running on fumes. we turned the car around and started straight away

This happened to a vectra i had a few years ago, turns out it was the pump. I needed to keep a can of that easy start stuff in the glove box incase i got caught out til it was fixed

Is it a diesel ? Check the fuel line for bubbles, Tank could be creating suction when on an incline and causing an air block in the fuel line.

Might be down to a leak somewhere.

If the car won't start on a hill with the nose facing uphill then it won't start with the nose on ramps either. The garage need to put it on ramps and find out why it won't start. Or am I missing something?

Would it be a Titanium X model then? If so, has the ignition button been replaced / fixed? Keyless start on all the Titanium X's we had from 08 had to be fixed.

it definately sounds like the fuel is draining back into the tank, not uncommon in fords for some reason. I only had this issue with a Transit recently, it turned out to be a tiny hole in one of the fuel pipes allowing pressure to drop off. it didnt matter too much when parked on the flat but you park i nose up on a hill and you would drain the battery trying to get it going.

My thinking also, if theres a pinhole leak it would let air into the fuel line and you'll spend ages trying to start it.
