Connecting Sky dish to sky box

    Hi all,

A few years back I had sky at home but got rid of it and the box was disconnected. I now want to hook it back up to get the english freeview channels. I had a look at the dish earlier and there are two cables coming from the LNB. I am just wondering, which one do I connect to the sky box in order to receive satellite signal? Or does it matter?

I had sky plus before, if that makes a difference. Is it just a matter of connecting the correct cable to the box and connecting the box to the tv and im good to go?

    Thanks

The 2 cables coming from the LNB are to allow the sky-plus to operate, so if you connect either of them to the box now , you should be flying.

Okay, so I connected one of the cables from the Sky dish to the TV and it's still staying no satellite signal (29). I connected it by going into the attic and attaching it to an existing cable that is running down the wall to the tv area. The cables are the right ones, so why am I having no luck? I have no bar for signal strength or signal quality and for lock indicator it says 'not locked' Does this matter? Can anyone shed any light?

    Thanks

Try the second cable, are you sure you are connecting to the satellite port on the satellite box? It should have f connectors like this (bottom cable)?

If you are getting nothing off either feed then it is possible that the dish is off alignment (most likely cause) or that the LNB has gone faulty, water could have gotten into the cables or even that the box you are using is faulty.

Yeah I am connecting it to the satellite port using an f connector. I can't locate the second cable from the dish in the attic. It's buried under insulation and I can't even see it! Is there any way I could realign the dish myself? How would I know if it's the LNB?

    Thanks for the reply
