hi, i bought a 06 touran off a vw dealer recently. It came with a 6 month warranty. It had 4 previous owners which i thought was a lot but the dealer didn't. I've since noticed a damp smell after heavy rain and there does seem to be water getting in to the boot. Have i any comeback with the dealer or what can i expect him to say when i call him. Still under warranty.

You can take it back and ask for it to be fixed under warranty. I don't think you can return the car just for that.

First thing i'd want to know is why is it leaking. Might it have been poorly repaired after an accident?

Probably just a simple case of dirt built up within the rubber itself, try going around it with a wet cloth and that should fix it.

Do the rear lights let water into the boot on these like some other vw's?

yeah, that could be it alright. Is it easy to fix? Would dealer do it under warranty?

2 months is grand, the dealer should sort it free of charge

Depends on the warranty given, some only cover the mechanical stuff.

Rear window wash/wipe does it work? If not or even if it does the water pipe suplying it could be split. Common fault on the MKIV golf.

This is why it is so pointless to ask these types of questions online. For used cars the warranty is what was agreed at the time of sale, and it can be different for every single sale, it is not like new cars that have statutory regulations. In this case the OP could have been promised full warranty coverage, or he could have been promised driveline warranty for six months.

The only person who can answer the OP's question is the OP himself, he was the only one of us involved in the sale.

Well if the dealer was worth his salt and wants a good reputation for after sales you'd imagine he'd sort this minor problem foc, if he has any savy..

Client has the car two months, last weekend it was bucketing so he has every reason to expect them to at least inspect it free of charge regardless of warranty. Then they cross the next bridge.

I was a used car sales manager for years, if you sell your own brand you don't act the maggot ... Now, if he had it since jan I'd be directing him to the clauses of the warranty, but not two months, that's how you lose repeat business

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke to the dealer today, he immediately redirected me to the servicing department after I told him there was a damp smell. They told me to bring it in for inspection, they'd do some investigation. The reason I posted on here was for the input of more knowledgeable and experienced people in these matters than myself and to have an idea how to approach the matter given that the dealer could have said mechanical warranty only, which he didn't. Thanks again.
