What do you mean by normal cable unit? If you mean analogue 15 or so channels then probably if the cable is up to it.

You can't move the UPC master socket as far as I know. If you ring UPC they will install a new socket up there and sell u some sort of multi room package.

Of course you could always run some good quality co-axial cable from the master socket to the bed room, with a good quality spliter and f plugs, the relocate the hd box up there. You should still have the 15 or so analogue channels still down stairs...

All the sockets are the same. A TV socket is the exact same as an internet socket. If you already have a TV/internet in a room and want to have both in the same room then use a splitter. A splitter comes with the internet modem, along with cables and a spanner and adapters.

It is generally not advisable to use a splitter unless you have to as it reduces the signal to the TV and the internet. This may cause problems if the signals are weak so the TV may start going blocky or freezing and the internet/phone may become less reliable.

So you could just move the HD box upstairs.
