he's only got feedback from 20 sales (or so), so its not a huge number.

also those watches on sale at the moment wouldn't be very dear to begin with, so i'm not sure how much of a bargain they are

Buy the seller as they say when it comes to ebay

Having said that i doubt very much there would be many fake armani watches floating about
Check that armani watch model exists...if it does then its likely to be real

With vintage pretty much anything from India and especially Ukraine is fake or heavily "restored" invented etc.

and with fashion watches lots of sellers make sure to expressly mention the fantasy retail price so that their normally priced (or even slightly expensive) watches look cheap.

Some sellers even have one or two models of each watch permanently listed at inflated "buy it now" prices to make their auctions more desirable. DeTomaso watches would be a prime example.

On this theme I notice a few Invicta watches in auction on eBay at less than €125. These same models also appear on discount sites for $99 claiming RRPs of $595 etc.

What is the story with Invicta? Most look ghastly imo but I was bidding on more muted models.

    Hi,

Armani watches are generally not expensive. Armani is a fashion brand and the watches are considered as fashion accessories. I don`t think that price is a terribly good deal.

Also please add Vietnam and their so called `Vietnam Era Military Watch` to the list of fakes and heavily modified pieces.

Anywhere as long as you get a fair deal and you know what you are buying. What kind of watch are you exactly looking for?

I don't know :o something that's not too flashy or tacky.

date and time is enough. don't need any alarm or anything. analogue.

any suggestions? sorry I'm new to this, and it'll be my first watch in probably 10 years.

    Hi,

Any preferences in strap type ie metal or leather maybe synthetic. Do you have any skin allergies? Do you mind had winding the watch on a day or you want battery operated or automatic?

Metal would be nicer I think. No allergies no. Don't have any preference for battery or winding or auto. whichever.

check this site for good quality affordables: http://www.orientuhren.de/

pictures usually aren't great on that site; copy the watch code into google images to get a better idea

    I don't know, I haven't bought from them yet.
Shipping from Germany should be a week or under

Shipping from DE is 4 days, but it's up to them how fast they are handling your order.

I'd add Russia and many of the former Soviet countries to avoid personally speaking when it comes to wartime vintage stuff. Never mind the outright fakes and made up watches, but the real deals that show up from time to time often have too much of a history of plunder and dubious source morality attached. Many USSR troops went home with both arms festooned in watches from the German vanquished, mostly stolen, if not taken from recently dead wrists.

what do you have in mind?

I think im a little young to be wearing a vintage watch, if its anything like what my dad wears :o

but he could just be old and have poor taste in watches. any good examples?

Vintage doesn't mean it has to be a retirement watch.
i was after a watch from the year i was born (1978) and dive watch style haven't changed much.
Apart from the slightly battered condition, you mightn't know it was 30+ years old

I have a few military watches from the 50`s. WW movement (wermachswerk- means milspec for the German army). They are German or Swiss made on good condition. They cost between 50 and 150 Euro. Last a lifeteme +. Shockproof, 38-44 hours of power reserve with 1 windup. Very accurate. Cheap to service. Great value. Most of them is not waterproof anymore, but that can be fixed.
