CV v's Interview dilema

Used to work in job whereby I had loads of responsibility, delegating workloads etc. Pay reflected "status" so to speak. As the wheel turned lost job, thats history now so have moved on. Now can't get a job shovelling sh1t. "Over Qualified" for most jobs apparently?? What a load of ****.

After advise, have now 3 versions of CV. Real/Edited/Dummy depending on the job type advertised.

Now, dilema I find myself in now is applied for job recently using dummy CV. After aptitude and Interview was offered place on a panel. Grand, happy days, it's a start.

But applied for another job in meantime in same company and have been offered another interview. Now as I said used Dummy CV and downplayed work history to get that previous job. Same HR will be interviewing for this job, which is more in line with my real work history. How can I explain the previous interview was bulls*it and told them what they wanted to hear and will they take me serious this time around.

I'm sure loads have recently been in this position?

Be sure to record the interview. I need a laugh.

I mean how bad did you lie on your dummy CV?

Explain the whole story regarding your old job and explain honestly why you have left in two different cvs, being entirely truthful is the only way you'll get out of this hole as the interviewers if smart enough will cop on with both

If this is a large organisation the interview team won't remember the specifics of your dummy C.V from the last day. They will just bring in the one for this position.

Just get creative and talk about your broad experience which allows you to fit into many roles and capable of doing a range of tasks including project management. Then give lots of examples.

Seriously don't overthink it. Just focus on the 'real' C.V. It will have more things to talk about so you can focus the interview and they won't even be thinking about the last day.

Just say you changed the CV's based on the specific job you were applying for. Everyone does this, leaves out certain things if they have no relevance to the job or stresses certain things if they're the focal point etc....will be fine :)

This is terrible advice from an AH point of view.

We demand more lies with hilarious consequence and a recording of the interview.

Well I wouldn't explain that the previous interview was BS. You can probably skirt around it , if it it the exact same person interviewing you they may ask you to provide examples of experience.
A lot of places use a standard list of questions so it mightn't directly get raised
Anyway, you can just say that you targeted your cv for the roles in question so emphasised different aspects of your work experience
Did you omit stuff completely off the dummy cv?
If you bring a printed copy of the real cv with you and just drive home the experience you have you should be fine
We often assume the recruiters will read between the lines of a cv, in most cases they don't
They'll be interviewing you on the basis of the real cv so hopefully you'll be fine

    Best of luck with it

I would wait and see if they bring it up in the interview and then if they do answer honestly. A lot of people including myself have taken this approach. They are obviously very interested in you as they have called you for an interview so it will it will be a great opportunity to put your reasoning across in an honest and articulate manner.

I don't see what the problem is? Your so eager to work you can put aside any pride to just do the job. Keep repeating you'll do anything to get work. "a n y thing" Raise your eyebrows a lot, one of them will ask you to stay after the meeting. Do whatever that persons asks you to do and I think you'll get the job.

Moved to Work & Jobs from After Hours. Please note the change in charter and behave accordingly.

All you did was tweak it don't think it should be an issue. All you did was included more of your work history in one CV and down played it in the other CV. Its still the same work history you have regardless. You can always add onto the other jobs you left out in an interview if they ask to fill in gaps missing or something. You just added in what work experience was relevant to the dummy CV I am assuming?

The fact that you are considered overqualified for some positions its best to downplay your work history to most relevant work in relation to the role you are being interviewed! I usually just put down a short or quick summary of work experience that might consider me overqualified for a position I am applying for, for positions I am qualified enough for I give my work history that is more relevant in more detail.

Just be honest in the interview if they ask more detail about your work history and any gaps that might show up in the dummy CV.

    Best of luck!
