I noticed this invitation to tender, and thought it might be of interest to some of you here. It's open to individuals, not just companies.
Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council proposes to grant-aid cycle training in primary schools within the Councils' administrative areas. The aim is to train children to ride a bike safely and to encourage positive and responsible attitudes towards personal safety. The Council is seeking proposals from competent companies/individuals wishing to be included on a panel of approved cycle trainers. The Council will then circulate the liist to schools who may then make arrangements with an approved training provider.

    Link works for me radia.

Really great initiative. Hope something comes from this. To me it seems like the first, and most important step towards the Dutch way of doing things with regards to cycling. Teach them at an early age, to instill a better understanding for all road users. Not just cyclists. As what kids could learn from this, will also make them better motorists later on in life.

We had something like this in our school in the late 80s. At the time, quite a few of us, myself included, used to cycle to school. Not sure if it was initiated by our particular school, or part of a more widespread initiative, but it was excellent. Painted road markings on the playground. Had fake traffic lights and junctions. Taught us the rules of the road, and basics like road positioning etc.

We got lessons in 3rd or 4th class at eh Traffic School in Fairview. We all got to fly around a compound full of narrow roads and mini traffic features.

It's something I'd love to do but wouldn't really be able to help out during school hours due to work.
