Immersion wiring

    Hello everybody,

    Can someone help me?

    I’ve changed my immersion switch to this one; Please see attachment.

    I’ve wired this immersion switch as follows: From the fuse board I connected the Red (live) wire to Lin, and Black (neutral) wire to Nin.

    I also connected Lin to Com with 2.5sq cable, and earths to earths.

    From immersion I’ve connected white (sink) wire to L2, red (bath) wire to L1, and blue (neutral) wire to Nout.

    The immersion is now working fine except when I face tested the wires at the immersion they are all live except the earth even when the switch was turned off.

    Is this normal?

    Any help would be approached as I’m worried about fire.

    you should have connected lout to com
    not Lin to com

    you have bypassed the switch
    rectify it and it will be fine

    Thanks for your quick reply.

    I've done what you suggested, but there's no power going to immersion now even though the switch is on.

    Hi anuprising,

    I've kept the bypass from Lout to Com, but I've switched the blue wire from Nout to Nin, and the black wire from Nin to Nout.

    Everything seems to be working fine now with no live wires on the immersion when the switch is off only when it's on.

    Is everything alright now do you think?

    immersion flex 4 core:

    L1 - Brown

    L2 - Black

    Nout - Blue

    Earth to earth terminal (V important)

    Supply from board:

    Lin - Brown (possibly red depending on age of wiring)

    Nin - Blue (possibly black)

    Earth to earth terminal.

    The supply cables will be in the box coming from the board. You'll need to ut in a loop between Lout and Com use a piece of the cable coming from the board if there's some slack on it.

    Please before you attempt any of the work ensure powers off at the board and tape over it and let someone in the house know what you're doing to avoid anybody turning it on.
