    Hey,
I went over a ramp and there was a creaking noise. I went over the next one and there was a loud noise and my car stopped pretty fast.

I can't move it back or Someone was kind enough to stop and have a look for me. He said a shock fell onto my right wheel and is stopping it from moving.

I waiting now for axa breakdown to come out. Does anyone know if this is likely to be expensive?

And I was just about to sell it! They also told me to organise somewhere for it to go but the garage is closed, any ideas?

That sounds dangerous. Was the car in an accident before? When was its last NCT? Has it been bounced off anything recently? Re cost, it'd be impossible to say without looking at it.

Last NCT was about 4 months ago. The car was never in an accident and it hasn't bounced of anything.

I'm just happy I wasn't on the motorway yet, I was about two minutes from a two hour motorway journey, that could have been bad!

That ( and all parts really) would be bolted on your car. If it's fallen off, something is seriously amiss with your car.

Has anyone been working on your car recently? Is it standard suspension (not lowered or cut springs or anything)

I doubt that it will just be a case of reattaching it, as it won't have fallen off for no reason. A shock itself isn't that expensive, it's the labour costs involved in actually doing the job.

Do you have a mechanic? If not, start asking around for a good independant garage to take the car to. Most recovery companies will know of somewhere local it can be brought, but of course could be just their mates!

Best of luck with the car, you were lucky that happened at low speed. Could have been very serious.

Oh yeah, yada yada yada, i'm no mechanic, just a computer nerd. Bear this in mind when reading above.

I had two wheel bearings done last week.
And it's not modified in any way.

Just normal. I'd say I was going about 25 -30km and it was a fairly small/low ramp

Were the bearings done in the side that got damaged? The shock may have been removed to remove the hub to press in the bearings!

Yea I think that was the side done but the tow truck came and said that something snapped.

Is it possible the Spring broke and the top of the arch is sitting on the wheel?

If its the shock then bolts have either come undon or sheared unless somethign drastic happened liek the shock broke.

I can't wait to hear what the mechanic will have to say about this.

He said something about a spring and the possibility of it ripping through my tyre while being pulled onto the truck, but they definitely said something is snapped.

Will just have to wait and see what the garage says tomorrow.

    - - When they came to collect my car they didnt even offer a lift home, just left me on the side of the road, which I thought was quite strange, had to get a taxi.

I would be inclined to agree that the spring or collar where the spring sits on has broke :)

Unless you drive a rwd car with torsion bars at the front :pac:

    Was it a microwave :p

Shouldn't be too big a job, probably around 200 for a new shock inc labour...

Maybe he didn't have insurance to carry a passenger, although he should have made sure you had a lift rather than leaving you stranded.

    It's a 2001 Ford Focus.

I just had a look at my policy booklet and I'm supposed to be covered for onward travel. So I should have been provided with transport.

Yes... if he drove a the car into a place and they removed the old one and fitted new. He described something far worse, could be damage to the wheel, brake lines, wishbones, hub/whatever on that car, shock obviously, coil spring (if the shock is inside the spring), top and bottom mounts etc etc.

Its a pretty messed up story though, love to see photos. Its telling I never see these stories on any actual car forum, just here, wonder why.. ;)
