Ok I think im at stage where I would like to give contact lens a go.

I just like ask few questions and if anybody could answer them that be great and much appreciated.

Is it best to go to the opticians that you got the glasses and eye check in first place?

I suffer from hayfever(not serious though) and I sometimes have to put on eye drops. Will that be interference?

If I wanted to buy them online and for cheaper is it possible that my Opticians will give me the details of my sight if I called them or rang them up? (hope people understand what I mean)

    To answer yoyr questions.

1: Make sure to go to an optometrist to get fitted for your lenses, not all contact lenses are the same and wearing an ill fitting pair will cause you problems in the long run. They will also show you how to put them in and take them out.

2: With hayfever you might find that when your eyes are irritated the lenses will be uncomfortable.

3: Once your contact lens prescription has been finalised you are entitled to a copy of your prescription but remember to return for regular checks.

    Hope this helps.

I got an eye test done at the same time as I hadn't had one in a couple of years. I was shown how to fit and remove the lenses - in my case I needed to be able to fit and remove them three times before I was allowed to take them home.

I was given a trial pack to wear for a couple of hours a day and was asked to come back the following week. That day I was asked to keep the lenses in for a few hours before turning up so the optometrist could check if they were having any adverse effects on my eyes. All went well so I was given a standard one month supply after that.

Fitting and removing contacts is awkward at first, but believe me, if I can do it then anyone can. :pac:

Go for it.Getting used to putting them in and taking them our can take time but with a bit of practise you'll wonder why you didn't try them years ago!

Just want to ask one last question.

Basically what price will I be paying? I know it more then likely varies and depends on how many etc, but any chance somebody could give rough estimate?

    Thanks.

I got contacts first time 2 months ago. I'm on the J&J 1 day acuvue moist (daily disposables) and they're €65 in an Opticians, VHI offer them for €50 while asda-contactlenses.co.uk offer the same for £28 if you know anyone up north (havent used them just yet but definitely will)

Daily disposables are expensive enough but I'm using glasses mainly and use the lenses for sport, going out etc. from the 30 I got 2 months ago I've got bout 10 left and that wasn't being overly conservative. Longer term contacts require cleaning, but they are cheaper. For me if I can get single use ones for £28 and never have to worry about cleaning or losing them that suits me perfect. To each their own, it depends on your needs and use

I bought the first pair from the optician to be safe and then got my prescription from them. It has to be signed and it's normally only valid for 12 months so you'll need to go back to them once a year to for an check up

Just 1 warning, avoid like the plague, the site eurolenses.ie as they are slow and ship from US leaving you to pay customs making it possible more expensive, loads of threads here on them!

You'll be fine, it's strange feeling at first putting lenses in, just maybe get some eye drops (ones that are lenses safe, not all are) and use the drops to help if your eyes get tired!

I'm buying my first pair from VHI very soon and I think if you refer a friend there's €10 discount :) I'll you updated

That was very helpful thank you.

Like you kinda need them for Sport as hoping to get back playing rugby come September.

I dont mind wearing glasses, but not really mad on them when going out and tend to leave them at home.
