Hi lads, just a quick question.

I'm looking to buy NCAA Football 13 on the PlayStation as I've been told that the PlayStation is not region locked whereas the Xbox version is.

So I'm just wondering if someone can give me a definitive answer that if I purchase a PS3 game with a region code NTSC-U/C (US/Canada) that it will still work on my Irish PlayStation?

    Thanks :)

The only region-locked PS3 game is the upcoming Persona 4: Arena. Every other game is region free :)

One thing to note with buying from US/Canada - any DLC for the game must be bought from the region in which the game was purchased.

Cheers for that mate. This will probably be the only title that I need to purchase from over there and I don't need DLC content from it so that should be fine.

I've also heard that you need a US account to access the online pass for it but I have one of those set up already, so it looks like I'm good to go :)

I got caught out with that.
Bought Oblivion here and while in the US for a week found the expansion pack on a separate disk - just would not work. Contacted Sony and Bethseda to be told the above....

Unfortunately not mate. Well, maybe it is somewhere but I've rang a lot of stores and none of them had it. Eventually got it off a UK based retailer on Ebay.

One other thing to watch out for, while the discs themselves aren't locked, NTSC games are exactly that - they don't support native PAL resolution/refresh (576i @ 50Hz), much the same way as PAL games don't support NTSC standard definition (480i @ 60Hz) so if you throw one into a PS3 that's connected in standard definition via the old composite cables you'll get an error message. In other words, it'll work fine in HD over HDMI or component, but won't work if you're playing in standard def :)

Also to bear in mind (not for this purchase but for the future) is that whilst games generally aren't region locked, Blu-Rays often are so if you end up buying more things on import and fancy getting in some cheap movies you need to check online to see if it's region one only first.
