I'm after an Intel Core i5 laptop on a budget, basically a cheap one although not at the price of shoddy workmanship or a laptop that will fall apart and break down.

A decent budget laptop if you will.

Also, is there a noticeable difference going for a 64 bit laptop over a 32 bit? The laptop is mainly for September, if you were I would you wait until then to get a better deal, or better technology?

Is there anything to look out for when ordering an i5?

Where I have been looking so far:

Amazon.co.uk Intel i5 Core laptops by price ascending

Laptopsdirect.ie Intel Core i5 laptops by price ascending

    I like this Toshiba tbh

    Toshiba Satellite C855-10Z 15.6 inch Laptop - Silver (Intel Core i5-2450M 2.5/3.1GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium, USB 3.0)

What is the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows?

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor (also called a CPU), handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system.

Make sure that is the second generation i5 cpu.

All Core i3/i5/i7 processors with the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture have a four-digit model number.

Don't wait until September , there will always be something new coming out in the meantime.

If you can afford it, go for it.

Okay, so I am to only get an Intel Core with 4 digits. Would you recommend going for an i5 over an i3? I mean obviously it's better, but is it noticeable? I do use my old desktop a lot.

I hear you, but again if I don't really need it til the end of August start of September I may get a similar spec laptop for cheaper, or with higher specs, then again I may get exactly the same for the same price.

I read one of the reviews where someone complained about the touchpad being on the left hand side, and having to reach over to it etc. Did it bother you?

That said, it looks great, although on reading another thread here on boards where someone mentioned ordering from Germany and swapping out the keyboard for a UK one easily I found this online:

    Toshiba Satellite C660-2QH 39,6 cm (15,6 Zoll) Notebook (Intel Core i5 2450M, 2,5GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, NVIDIA GT 520M-1GB, DVD, Win 7 HP) @ €489.

The option of a bit of gaming would be nice, especially if it's cheaper than ordering from the UK or Ireland.

    My budget's around €500.

if you are buying this laptop and are just going to use it for a few years (2 or 3) then the i3 will be fine, but if you want a laptop that you are going to use for longer period of time (3+ years) then you might want an i5.

the main reason I am saying this is because newer software normally needs better specs. Lets say they bring out a new Windows and you want to upgrade to that and when you do you find your laptop is slower, but then again it may still be slower even with an i5, a fast laptop depends on more that the processor.

I've had Acer laptop before with French keyboard layout and it never bothered me tbh.

It was just a matter of swapping a few keys , I've done this option in windows but you can even use much better program yourself.

However if you really prefer to have proper UK/US keyboard then I would advice you to get one from this gang

it is compatible with C660 model.
