Teaching 6 year old to swim

Hi. Any tips for what drills or approaches would be good to get my 6 year old swimming. He's confident with armbands on him, and he is much "braver" at getting his face into the water. I'd be interested to hear if people have good tips to move things along. The plan is to bring him to classes in August, but if I could give him a head start it would be great. He's down on himself as he's in a camp where most of the kids his age can already swim so I really want to help him out.

Get him a kickboard to do kicking drills. It will be a step up from armbands. Arm movements come from this, taking one arm at a time off the board. And for confidence, get him to retrieve things from the bottom of the pool, push off from the wall and glide to you without armbands, go from a lying (floating) position to standing etc.

And play. Play in water is great for confidence. This is all based on what Ive seen my kids do while learning to swim.
