CPU and GPU running hot

Well I bought a graphic card on adverts yesterday (Sapphire HD 4870) and as soon as I turned on computer I could feel the heat coming from the case. In idle card is running at 65-68C and under load up to 80C. I know they are performance cards and they do run bit hotter but my CPU temperature also went up by 7 degrees Celsius (from 36 to 43) in idle and up to 56C under load. My power supply is 500W and I believe it is adequate.
Could anyone tell me why is this happening and is it normal? I don't think video card should run at 65C when hardly been used.
BTW CPU nor GPU is overclocked.

This sounds perfectly normal to me. The GPU temperatures are well within norms. The CPU temperatures going up are likely caused by a higher ambient temperature in the case (which is caused by the extra heat from the graphics card).

The heat of your CPU is generally made up of: ambient temperature + heat generated by the CPU - heat removed by the heatsink. In this case a rise in the ambient temperature inside the case causes a directly proportional increase in CPU temperature.

If you're concerned, I'd suggest you check the Tmax for the GPU and CPU on the manufacturers website. Tmax is the highest rated safe operating temperature for a chip.

    Thanks for your replay.
I think it's time to buy third party cooler for my CPU. Just to keep things little bit cooler.
    Cheers

56c for a CPU underload is actually pritty decent, they can reach around 90 before needing thermal sensor cut out. Video cards will run at a much higher temporature, and will usually be able for 120/130c no problems. Unless the CPU cooler is noisey or your looking to overclock I wouldn't bother changing heatsink with those temps, 40~c not under load is good

+1 on not changing heatsink. Wouldn't bother tbh.

    So I'm safe then?
I was worried because my system was a lot cooler with PowerColor HD 3850 installed.
Guy from adverts offered to take the card back. He is claiming that card was hitting 55c when playing the game. I'm at 63 at the moment without any load. Should I just keep this card or return it?

One easy way is to download AtiTools and run the 'Scan for Artifacts'. This application will stress your card like when playing a game and you can monitor the maximum temperatures.

That seems ridiculously low to me (i.e. likely a mistake). Personally I'd be ok with in the 90's under load for a GPU. System instability because of overheating should show itself quickly. ATItool + scan for artifacts is worth a bash too.

This places the idle temp at 60 and load temp at 85 for your card, i wouldn't worry. If it really bothers you, pick up an extra case fan.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to run a test and see. But I think I'll keep the card.
    Thanks
