Remember those chain e-mails that were just address harvesters for spamming sites, you don't see them anymore, good.
Is it because most the gullible sorts moved onto facebook or do the filters pick them up easier ?, anyway good job internet.
It's an all round cleaner experience that the good old days of 20 pop up windows & ads for penis enlargements.
The children will never believe our tales of how you couldn't just back out of a porn page you accidentally clicked on.

Ah yes, poor Mary who didn't forward the email to 10 of her friends and then all of a sudden went out a lunchtime to get a sandwich and was torn to shreds by eagles.

But fair deuce to John, he did forward it and all of a sudden he won the lottery at lunchtime when he accidentally fell over his long lost love and now they're married, with kids (give it a few years John, when she's bitchín at ya and the kids are screaming, those eagles won't look so bad).

Having said that you do get people sending you on emails to support justice and social issues that they have not one clue about, like that whole Joseph Kony rubbish. FFS about two years ago I got a FB chain mail asking me to sign a petition so that James Bulgers killers wouldnt be released. FFS they got out the first time 10 odd years ago.

I created a powerpoint which started off like all those regular chain mails, but the last slide was, 'Your computer has now been infected by the chain mail virus'. I sent to anyone who had sent me stupid chain mails. If they were stupid enough to believe they'd get luck/money if they sent it to random people, they'd believe a stupid powerpoint!
Haven't gotten one in a long time now. :cool:

Haven't had one for years. If a friend sent one I called her (invariably females sent them) and asked her not to send me shyte. My friends have been getting them in texts of late - I still get none

Yes they have gone but these annoying internet types have moved on to posting banal things on facebook constantly.

It's often these stay at home mums who when they're not putting a picture up of their kid every five minutes (I weep for the kid in 15 years once he's clocked on that a bunch of strangers have been tracking his life and know everything about him) it's posting pure rubbish about subjects they know nothing about. The other things that do my head in is the like if you love our troops or care about this terminally ill girl and if you don't like you're attacked for not caring and being heartless.

The downside of the internet is that gives everybody a voice but the thing is 95% of people have nothing interesting or worthwhile to say. Same people same story just different methods unfortunately :cool:

I remember seeing on QI that these things stretch back for ages, before the Internet. Can't remember the whole thing, but I'm sure if anyone is interested they can thank this post and receive the answer tomorrow or risk dying of lupus.

I'd love to do a whole "The Ring" thing, make a DVD, leave it lying around. When you watch it, there's mad sh!t on the video, and it says that you have to make someone else watch it or you'll be eternally butt fucked by an ogre made of bees or something.

IIRC they said they were trying to break the record for longest chain letter, and you had to resend them to 6 of your friends and write the names of the previous 5 recipients on the back of the envelope
