Where to get prostate exam?

I hope this is okay to post. I know health related questions aren't generally allowed, but I hope this is okay as its just a question about where to get medical information, as opposed to receiving medical information so to speak!

I have an embarassing issue that may need a prostate exam. I live in Dublin at the moment and I don't want to go to my regular GP back home as I just couldn't face getting it done with him! I have attended a doctor whilst here in Dublin, but that doctor was female, so thats another no go!

Is there somewhere that deals specifically with these sorts of issues? I'd prefer to go to specialists rather than a GP, just so I know I am getting everything checked, and checked correctly! (not that I dont trust GP's!)

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your first port of call should be a GP. If there is an issue that needs referral to a specialist then the GP will refer you. You cant self refer to a specialist. You dont even know if you need a specialist, a GP will determine that.

There is absolutely no need to be embarrassed about needing a prostrate exam, its a totally normal things that GPs do all the time. You also dont need to be embarrassed if its a female doc, a female doc will handle it with as much professionalism as a male doc. This is really not such a big deal for them, although I appreciate it is for you.

Just go to any GP, its a very quick painless procedure that will be done before you know it and your mind will be at ease.

Hey OP, I'd second just going to any doctor, if you pick a practice with a few doctors you can absolutely call to make an appointment and request a male doctor as well if you'd like to.

There is a place in Dublin 7 that deals exclusively with Male health issues

so they might be worth a call

As above. Your local GP is your best bet.

Going to a GP is the way to go, you'll pay considerably more to go to a specialised clinic for what is quite a routine examination. Having had an examination of a personal nature from a female doctor before I can tell you that you have no reason to be embarrassed - though you should be able to request a male doctor. If it's any consolation you won't have to see the doctor when they are carrying out the actual examination anyway!
