It's an awesome animation, but it doesn't really belong here. Thread locked, unless you've got a better reason for it to be here. In which case, PM me.

    edit: Thread unlocked

Okay...I haven't given enough 'hook' for a debate here...I'm not sure I can offer very much more, as it's not like I've been reading up on this stuff, or anything - far too much housework and gardening duties for that..

But... I put this up because I thought what a creative and well thought out response to the massive geo-political, economical and spiritual changes we as a species have been undergoing for the last while. This video charts the time since 2001, and is based on the book that George Bush was apparently reading, and continued to read for 7 minutes, after the time the twin towers were hit, and after he had been told that the first tower had collapsed.

There is a fair amount of analyses out there already of the symbols used in this piece, a lot of it gets very Biblical and leaves me behind...
My response to it was that it was visually stimulating, spooky perhaps, but I'm not sure on what I think of it besides that, that's why I put it up here..to learn what other people might see in it...as a novice in this area myself. I did flinch a little at the inclusion of Obama, as i am a fan myself...
Anyhoo...maybe people have some opinion on it?

What does "undergoing for the last while" mean?

Since when are these changes happening? The 1st World war? The Enlightenment? The Industrial Revolution? The Fall of the Roman Empire ? Since the time of Moses perhaps?

What changes are you talking about?

I can smell new-agey nonsense approaching...

Okay, Studiorat, you've got my pulse raised a bit as i nervously deny being a new-age bull****ter....go easy I'm new

Em, i know change is constant, and change has been happening since time began, doesn't matter what historical era you care to categorise from.
I did mention 2001, since when there has been - imo...don't shoot me - an 'acceleration' in the conflict between ideologies, the goodies invading the 'baddy' mongerers of weapon of mass destruction, supposedly, which has led to - for example - a rise in legislation which sees personal freedoms undermined, such as monitoring of communications, airport regulations, and so on. And a hardening of attitudes between peoples of different persuasions..and us and them thing....muslims vs christians, east vs west. I don't think this is in my vaguely 'new-age' imagination. I used to travel the world a lot, with a back pack and more hope than cash, and I found being in Islamic communities to be pleasureable...their hospitality is legendary, and their culture fascinating, but i do 'feel' (oh gosh, is that not empirical enough?!) that things have changed in the world..since, yes, specifically, the attack on the twin towers..in terms of travel, and how much we trust each other...or are being encouraged to trust each other.
This video I suppose explores the possibility of this having been an engineered state of affairs. i don't fall down decisively on either side of this debate...I'm still forming my opinions....
I also just think its an accomplished piece of animation...

It's a fantastic animation, and it was obviously designed to tick every wild CT box they could think of.

Check out this video of a Christian CT fan analysing it - there's a great clip here where he shows some drawings he 'traced' from some Egyptian pictures that 'show' Obama removing a mask, Prince William, and various other stuff. It's about the best practical example of apophenia I've ever seen.

On a side note, I imagine this is what RTDH's dreams look like :)

There is a lot less "cause for concern" today than back in the seventies/eightes or the forties, or the preceeding centuries.

People who indulge to doomsday and fearmonger often have little grasp on history and do it regardless of era or decade.

We don't have bombs going off in our country, bread queues, massive fuel shortages, the imminent threat of nuclear annihilation - but we do have more security at airports..

A little context is needed every once in awhile.

It is a part of the human condition to always believe that things are getting worse and that we are living in the end times. Early Christians were expecting the world to end nearly 2000 years ago, and every year since.

Wow...Apophenia...see NOW I'm learning! (I do believe in synchronicity though....just too much personal experience to deny its reality...go ahead and call me 'new-agey', at least i'm in good company with Jung - there's a chap i would have liked to have to dinner..)
And as far as thinking that the times we live in are special, is that not part of the motivation for engaging politically with any given time...if anything I believe we have stalled on our engagement politically with this time because we have become somewhat jaded with a 'nothing new under the sun' sort of clever apathy...

(I've got to go out for a few hours...chat yiz later)

Well, if they keep it up they'll eventually be right.....

    Wow!
    That was awesome!
Very nicely made anime and i love the symbolism, alot of it i could hardly keep up with too.
Sorry to hear you were a fan of Obama. If you research into his work,it should become apparent he belongs in that video.Although that kind of info isnt fully mainstream.Wont be in his book etc.
Bush was an oaf, blunt and rude.
Obama is like a snake compared.Full of charm, trained in speaking and can fib with a straight face....unlike Bush lol
This was higlighted quite well in the video too!

Yes the video is over the top, but i love it.
Its a really artistic rendition of world events and figures.
Its quite interesting to me that people who may not have read alot into this type of stuff might be freaked out or think it really creepy.

I saw it as a work of art.Someone else might see it as insanity :)
Well they are both the same on some levels and whats going on in the world now geopolitically is much more fu%ked up.

Perhaps you could discuss Germanic Paganism and Occultist Symbolism or something over strudel and coffee. ;) Synchronicity is nothing more than a bit of fun. You enjoy the moment when it happens. Unfortunately it's only magic in our heads.

There's also the concept of "patternicity" which doesn't have the mental illness connotations of apophenia. In which the human brain has a tendency to search for patterns in everything; it's why we see faces in clouds and on slices of toast. We constantly infuse patterns with meaning, intention and (most importantly when discussing CT's`) agency.

And as far as thinking that the times we live in are special, is that not part of the motivation for engaging politically with any given time...if anything I believe we have stalled on our engagement politically with this time because we have become somewhat jaded with a 'nothing new under the sun' sort of clever apathy...

I'd rather say that there's lots of new things under the sun and change is constant, fast and slow. Every time is special and therefore none are special.

I'd also suggest that we are more politically aware en masse than any time before. Furthermore I'd be in the company of many a new-ager in this belief.
The only difference is I wouldn't call it an "Awakening" :)

For what it's worth I, Pet Goat is as much about the irrelevance of the symbolism contained within it. The re-hashed pop culture clips are quite mundane. It's stock symbolism used time and time again. It's strength lies in the quality visuals and animation. I particularly like the little nods at Dali and Michelangelo I'm sure there were many others. And a really excellent score to boot!

Daithi, I merged your interpretation thread with the current "I, Pet Goat" thread. I didn't think there was much use in having two separate discussions on it.

Nice 1. Just noticed the other thread.

''I particularly like the little nods at Dali and Michelangelo''.
    Me too. Fave bits.

''I'd also suggest that we are more politically aware en masse than any time before.''
yup, that's why we're all out on the streets protesting about the grotesque pillage of this country that's been going on over the last few years...repeating generational patterns like when our overlords kept exporting food out of here while we starved during the famine...

Awakening? I dunno. If I was to bet on it - real money, like - I'd say people will still pretty much be doing the same ol' thing next year and the year after and so on and so forth ...I'm not a millenarian.

I do however find it fascinating how ideas are being spread at the speed of light around the globe, almost as soon as they are conceived, by this astonishing thing called the internet....both good and bad. And that we still have the freedom to watch such 7 minute challenges to the accepted story. But then again, in truth i'm still in awe of planes....I just watch them flying overhead like a slack-jawed yokel...what's going on, i ask ye...
