Hey folks gonna be in the UK shortly for a few days and wondering how to get the best from my smartphone while away.

I think I understand from VF passport that I can use my data up to 50mb/day but at a cost of €2 and then it's €1/mb after that (eek!)

I will, of course, look to use wifi where possible and I have viber, cabbage and skype to cover those eventualities.

Just wondering if there are any other apps or techniques I can use to get the most out of the phone.

Also anyone recommend a good podcast app? and reader type app?

    Thanks muchly :)

EDIT: I also think I understand that my inclusive minutes and texts are NOT (??) valid while away but that I'll be charged at the 'normal' rate (hey to me normal rate means my inclusive minutes and text.....)

I'm trying to find the best way to stay in contact with UK numbers while roaming there, if you get my drift!

The best place for this info is probably boards.ie > Biz > Talk to...Vodafone.

There's are some threads there about roaming and some vodafone staff who answer questions.

This thread on the second page looks relevant.

Was just going to suggest the same thing, I used this place
http://cellunlocker.net/ last week to unlock my Mams phone for the same reason, cost about €12 and I had the code in about 5 minutes. She got a 3 PAYG sim card, topped up by €20, this gives here free unlimited texts, and unlimited data amongst other things, 3 also have something called 3 like home, this means in certain countries and the UK is one, you have exactly the same benefits as though you were at home, so you still get the free calls on weekend, free texts unlimited data etc
