Can somebody fill me in on royal portrush and rathmore.

I know G Mac and Dunbar are from the Rathmore club, so i taught maybe Royal Portrush dont allow junior members, but you see guys attached to RP playing boys.

Is the Rathmore the Valley course also?

Is it the working mans club?

Rathmore is a club who use the Valley course. The Valley course is owned and run by Royal Portrush Golf Club. Portrush ladies also play on the valley.

Royal Portrush have a Fred Daily team (U18).

Not sure what you mean by working men's club.

Yes that is correct. Same applies at Royal County Down. There are two clubs. RCD and the Mourne. RCD own both courses and the Mourne 'hire' usually the Anesley links course.

Both clubs (RP and RCD) have largely Belfast based members - medics and professionals

They both allowed and encourages a club for locals to be formed in the 40's / 50's

locals normally wouldnt be admitted to the main club

In the UK many clubs have (or had) artisan golf members, who pay a minimal fee but have to play before 7am or after 6pm and repair divots/general course maintainence work. Also in a club I used to play they weren't allowed in the main clubhouse, they made their own bar above the pro shop. Crazy I know but golf is far more snobby there in Kent/Middlesex/Hertfordshire, almost like a different world to golf in Ireland.

Are the clubs attached to RP and RCD still open for members? I'd say there is a stipulation on tee times and on your living location to the club

Many Dublin clubs have Artisan members (and golf clubs within the club)

Yes membership is strictly for local residents and numbers controlled by the main club - with their own clubhouse.

not sure about Portrush, but for many years most Mourne members didnt have a good word to say about RCD members

That is still the case, and the annoyance with RCD has been known to stretch to clubs around the world!
