Best Cloud storage solution (Android compatible)

    Hi there,

I've got about 40 gigs worth of photos which I'd like to back up to Cloud storage somewhere.

I've got a HTC One X, and have registered to get the 25 gigs free storage with Dropbox for 2 years but unfortunately it's not enough space! It also costs $99 to double this storage per year, which is a little steep I think (though I'm fully prepared to pay an annual charge if necessary) I have to consider that this will be an ongoing annual 'bill' so don't want to pay more than necessary!

What's great about this HTC/Dropbox setup is that my photos and movies will upload automatically from my phone when connected to WiFi - this is invaluable since I've got a baby on the way and would love to ensure this stuff is safe (not sure how often I'll realistically get around to connecting phone manually and uploading!) Dropbox also has a handy linking feature where you can send others a URL to your online media.

Is there any other option out there which will offer a similar service for less than $99 a year? I've spent a lot of time looking into Google Drive, justcloud etc but it's hard to wade through the crap and all the various options :)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions :)

As far as I know Skydrive has the cheapest cloud storage available at €37 per year for 100GB. The only problem is that it doesn't have an official Android app, although there are third party apps that will auto-sync files and photos to your Skydrive account.

Box gives 50gigs free when you sign up. It's not as good as dropbox because of it's 100MB limit on files but it may be ok for images.

I think it's only 5GB now for free users. That promotion ended in March if memory serves, unless it's back on again.

Ubuntu One is a cloud storage alternative. It's fully compatible with Android(similar client app to dropbox) and it will automatically upload photos taken with your phone(not sure about videos).
It only gives you 2GB free though but you can add 20GB Storage add-ons(each 20GB add-on costs $30).

Google drive will offer the auto upload functionality soon, from what I'm reading. For the time-being, android can upload them automatically to your Google+ account.
Google drive asks for $5 per month for 100 GB.

I use Google Picasa for my pictures and I really like it. Because I have an android phone, all my picasa albums appear on my phone as standard albums. I find this very handy when I want to annoy someone with my pictures.

I was paying €5 a year for 20GB (I think) but the prices have now changed

I also like the Picasa software for tagging faces and making one click slideshows etc..

40GB sounds like a lot of photos so you will probably have to spend a lot of time setting up the web albums etc, so maybe try the 1GB free storage to see if you like it.

    register 2 drop box accounts?

We've actually done this - but it's a pain to have to switch between accounts on our PC (where we have the 40 gigs of photos stored) ... but yes it's a backup option for sure.

Will look into all your suggestions, thanks a lot! Google Picassa is one I hadn't thought of .. thanks :)
