How long would it take me to cycle from Mulhuddart to Dunboyne?

    From Mulhuddart to Dunboyne? 7.2km according to google maps from point to point... would not be very fit and would I be very sweaty after because there are no shower facilities at destination?

    A 7.7Km* cycle took me about 40 mins recently, but that's accounting for lights / crossing cycle paths and being extremely cautious at intersections.

    *from Carpenterstown to Leixlip via Westmanstown.

    I'm fit-ish and cycle 10km on the flat (traffic lights, level crossings) in about 30 minutes. On a good day it's a few minutes under, on a bad day it's a few minutes over.

    I've one of those little speedo things on my bike and I can see it varies between 18-22km/h normally. When the wind is in my face I drop to somewhere between 10-15 and when the wind is behind me, I get to 25-30.

    This is on the flat along the coast though - I've no idea what the rise & fall is like between Mulhuddart & Dunboyne.

    It'd be pretty much flat apart from the hill at the train station in Dunboyne.

    A reasonably fit person could do it in 20 minutes, so allow say 30-35 minutes.

    If you want to gradually build up to it, cycle one way and get the bus the other way.

    Or cycle to Coolmine/Clonsilla and get the train to Dunboyne. Bikes are allowed on commuter trains off-peak only. There is no fare for the bike on commuter services.

    even a pretty unfit person will manage 18kph easily enough or about 25 mins.
    You'll get used to it fairly quickly and up that rate. If it's predominantly flat you should have no issues doing it at 25-30 kph within a few weeks and it's short enough that you shouldn't be sweaty, I find it takes about 15km to even warm up properly.

    Truly the only real way to find out is to try it if you have time. Everyone's fitness level is different. Perhaps going half way and then back on the bicycle might be worth a try, to see how you are after it?
