Car ads with no price shown....

Does anyone ever buy these? I always pass them over.

Same for ads which don't show mileage or tax/NCT status. Why don't people include these details? Puts me right off...

I hate when garages put up POA for cars they have for sale.
I can only assume the reason they do it is cause the add appear first when you do a search by price on carzone

Bad enough not to list the price, a main dealer down the country had an ad. in the Irish Times a few weeks ago, listed off a load of used Mercs. with prices and no year against any of the models!

I get more calls when i advertise POA which leads to more sales. If the price is there people may be interested and just pass it by, if they ring fo a price i can arange a test drive alot of the time which often leads to a sale or referal.

Yeah used to be very common in regional papers to have big colour ads listing cars but not their prices:confused:

I just assume if it says POA then it is out of my price range and move along until I find something that only costs a few grand.

It's really annoying when you're shopping for a banger and select a max price. All you get are pages of POA!!

Especially carzone as the only minimum option is €1000. At least with donedeal you have to enter a price when submitting an ad.

You dont have to enter a price on donedeal

I thought you did, maybe I'm wrong.

At least you can put in a really low minimum if you want to search for cars without POA appearing. I'd use carzone more if that was possible.

When I was buying, any car with POA was skipped without even looking. If you want me to buy let me know how much you want, I won't do your job or waste my money ringing you to find a price.

The auld lad buys the Farmers Journal and it's full of this. Companies with full page picture ads with car and all kinds of machinery and not a single price to be seen.

Makes sense, obviously works or dealers wouldn't do it!

Is this not a very old fashioned way of selling cars.

I.E. walk in with you bag of cash and tell the salesman exactly how much money you have and he will match the car to your price.

Maybe their is two trains of thought on this one.. I tend to just skip the add or filter it out.

I never call ads with POA on them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

No price? Put the ad in to IGNORE list.

i only called once when there were no price set andthat was a mistake. It was an r32 skyline. Seller was dreamer and i wont comment on the rest, as it cant be told without insults.

The presumption is that it gets rid of the timewasters, if your seriously interested in a particular car you'll phone about the price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭dillo2k10

I just skip past all of the POA's, usually the first few pages. Then I ignore anything with no NCT or tax details or just one photo/no interior photos.

Also if someone says no dreamers or no cash no drive I just assume he's a complete tool and don't want to deal with him. Maybe on a 2012 Range rover but not with an 08 golf or focus!

I can understand it on something prestige but apart from that, no.

Back when I used Carzone looking for cars I would set the minumum price as well as the maximum price. If you dont want to tell me the price of the car I sure as hell arent going to be bothered asking...

I just presume they want mad money and it would be just a waste of time to ring, ask for the price, have an argument and be out of pocket for the phonecall as well.
    POA? PFO!
Also, any ad with "NO TIMEWASTERS NO PRIVATE NUMBERS, NO TXT, NO DREAMERS, WINDOWLICKERS, TIREKICKERS OR TESTPILOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!" is duly ignored, it signals to me the seller has an attitude problem and I don't want to deal with dicks.
I'm a bit undecided about blanked out regs, but it always smacks of something to hide.
Simple ad with a good few pictures, all the facts, no fluff in the info text and it gets on my list. It really is not hard to make a good ad.

Im selling commercials and specific ones at that so get alot of interest in most bew ads i put up. Last wed i put up two second hand vans with loads if pics and good discriptions, 2 hours and over 10 calls later the first one was sold, the second sold the following day. When ever i stick an ad in autotrader mag i get loads of calls too. Could be down to the vehicles they have a good following

    I agree.

The blanket out reg annoys me when Im trying to get an I insurance quote for it. But I think it's to stop someone planting up using your reg.

That no tirekickers really annoys me like what difference could it possibly make it someone hasn't a clue about cars!

What about cars that are 1,999 on the internet but when you go to the garage to see it, its actually 2,499.

This a new thing ? Also came across a few dealers who don't have any prices at all on the cars.

what can ruin a good add can be the contact details some sellers hide behind fake names or abbreviations ,like in this add for a recently towed audi..

What is more bizare is that he thinks a 10 year old A4 is worth €5k.

No cash no test drive is another fun one.

Also as said above an ad that smacks of arrogance and attitude would also put me off viewing, as mostly it's for cars with migh milage i find

the odd time ill ring out, ask all the usual questions only to be fed lines like " shes lethal in the wet " or " 3rd for slow 2nd for go " which only instills my faith more that its actually got a FSH and hasn't ever had the life revved outta it.
