only trying this as a long shot because i cant seem to find any work in the sector i am looking to work in. I am 24 years of age and I live in North co.Dublin.I have a fetac cert in security systems technology, 9 distinctions, 1 merit, have relevant work experience from my time during this course and from when i worked as an apprentice electrician.also have an up to date safe pass. I am just wondering is there any installers or anyone who knows of any looking for a dig out even if its only temporary. My number is 0861231857

Hi mark, just wondering about that course you did, im actually thinking of doing it myself, iv worked in that sector before & have done the alarm & cctv city & guilds courses. just wondering what the course is like overall??
    Much appreciated, tony

hey tony.to be honest that you have the city and guilds there is no real point in doing it as there is nothing new that you learn that you would already no.i think because you have worked in the sector before you would know everything that is basically on the course.probably the only part of the course you would find useful is the structured cabling end of it.i found the course good personally as i didnt want to go down the fast track course way.i cant see how much can be learned over a few days and they are expensive also.but if your looking to refresh yourself on anything and dont mind going to school and doing assignments in communications every day for nearly 9 months id say go for it.

i did it in a VEC.yeh it was from 9 til half 3 every day.the alarm, cctv and access control were mostly practical work.one day a week work experience aswel.as far as i know though the qualification you have will stand in getting you a employees PSA licence. I seen an apprentice in security systems advertised down in waterford there the other day on FAS.if thats any use to ya

that apprenticeship i was actually meant to do with a company a few years ago but got screwed over, not sure if fas are gonna continue with it, the demand doesnt seem to be there. many in a class? i really need to learn more on the technical side of things so thats my main reason for doing it, plus the cert at the end of it.

Hi can anyone help me as i have had two interviews with alarm companies and one said i would need to an apprenticeship with them and the other said it is up to me how fast i can get qualified? I can't see any alarm installer or alarm engineer apprenticeship on FAS. There is also courses that take 6 weeks to do so i really don't understand how i have to do an apprenticeship.

    Thanks in advance.
