Hi, i am trying to find a bike for my girlfriends birthday which is next week and i am struggling to even find the category of bike that i am looking for.

She wants one of those old / urban "basket on the front" type bikes. Can anyone help with what i should be looking for and more importantly where, thanks in advance for your help

Pashley do 'basketinthefront' old school type bikes. Also Fitzcycles seem to have a range that may fit the bill (HolyMoly) - e.g. http://www.fitzcycles.ie/products.php?product=Creme-Holymoly-Uno-%252d-Ladies-3-Speed-Bike

Of course your local bike shop may have its own (similar) range...

Dawes are a fair bit cheaper than Pashley and offer basically the same thing.

I'm pretty sure they are stocked in Dublin, not sure where.

Eurocycles have one of these in 20" for me if i want it but not 17.5"

My girlfriend is 5ft 10" and they think the 20" would be more suitable anyway... what do you guys think... i know they are keen to sell it to me but i don't want to take the 20" one just because it's the only one they have... however i think she would really like this one and would hope that it is the right fit...

Unfortunately it is a surprise so i can't get her to try it out :(

City cycles in stoneybatter have Pashleys and a cheaper variant that I can;t think of the name of. Bomba? or La bomba?

I have ridden the 17" version formerly owned by my 5'1" wife without too many issues, and I'm 6ft. They're not the sort of bike which requires CERN-like precision in fitting.

They are, however, not good value for money, particularly in the republic (she bought hers from BikeDock in Belfast).

If you can find someone roughly the same height as your gf, you could always bring them along to check out the sizing for comfort or whatever.

Any idea where I could hire/beg/borrow one of these bikes for a few days - for a 'try before you buy' kind of thing?
